What I'm working on: Nicene Creed
How will we help young people remember and digest these great truths?
Apparently today might mark 1700 years since the council of Nicea, famous for producing the Nicene Creed, which many Christians affirm as a profound, succinct and thorough declaration of what Christians believe. So it seems fitting that today I think I’ve come up with the riff that will mark a rhythmic version of the Nicene Creed of which I plan to make a video featuring actions (similar to Panoaerobics).

Christians have been saying the Nicene Creed together in their gatherings since it was written—that’s a long time. What a wonderful corporate tradition! But for many of us we don’t say it enough to remember it and digest it, and when we do say it in our gatherings it can feel dull or just something that the oldies do. So I’ve been thinking: how could I help people use the Nicene Creed in a fresh way that also helps them remember it? And maybe even gives different generations a shared experience?
So I’ve been working on a rhythmic way of saying the Nicene Creed, set to a sound track. I’ll also be working on actions to match each phrase to help both remember the words and consider what they mean. I then plan on making a video that a group of people could follow along together. My thought is to make it more for younger people but not excluding older people—as in, I’m not expecting it to be their cup of tea, but hoping that those who are older might participate anyway for the sake of the younger, delighting in the way that younger people are engaging with the creed. They’d then have a shared experience to reflect on together after the video.
As with all my video plans at the moment, I’m trying to produce resources that promote embodied gatherings and can be used in them.
I’m also working on one for the Apostle’s Creed.
What do you think? Anything I should keep in mind as I develop these?
I don’t want money for these resources. But if you did want to partner with me financially, please consider regularly giving towards my work with university students through AFES. From 21st July 2025 I’ll be working on the campus at ACU North Sydney and need 50 people to give $200 per month to make that work possible. Will you give?
This sounds great! Many people learn well from movement, what a wonderful resource.
It’s common for churches (and groups and families) to teach/learn by speech or text only, I love how this will use movement!
